That's why it's so appealing, and of course the people in power are easily seduced. The nature of goodness is through process, longsuffering, endurance. It is the difficult path, but it's also the path that's the most rewarding. The nature of evil is ultimately destruction, and when evil runs out of good things to destroy, it will destroy itself. Taoism's teachings about duality make me think evil might always exist (because good exists), BUT, what somebody on here once wrote makes more sense to me. They said that when people intentionally act out evil that basically after this life anywhere that isn't a hell would reject them. So they basically "carve out" their own fate/future through their own actions. So evil people end up being dragged into an environment that matches their qualities and who knows what'll happen to them in there. As for hope, I do believe that good can overcome evil, and that it is possible for people to rise up. Attack on titan before the ending got sabotaged is a good example. I never watched a lot past the beginning but I was a kid when it was coming out and becoming super popular and I remember how pumped up everyone was about it. Just go through the comments on popular songs from the soundtrack, the same vibe is still there. So many people are still so invigorated by it, even though the ending may have actually been sabotaged (I made a thread about it recently, and linked an older thread where I first heard the theory that the ending was sabotaged. https://boards.4chan.org/x/thread/42565466) I think it's possible for evil to be overcome, but I don't know if it can ever be fully erased because of duality. It sucks that Buddhism, which has the end goal of annihilating one's own existence, might be the only solution. But I think Taoism also says that infinite things are possible, so who knows.
