See back in the days of network syndication, the governing metric was neilsen ratings. There was no other way to measure, so the neilsen company measured everyone and told everyone everything.

Nielsen doesn't do streaming tho, or at least not well. Because the streaming services all keep their data to themselves. Which means comparing accross platforms is basically impossible, you can only compare star wars to other things on Disney+, not to things on Netflix or HBO or whatever.

So get around that they measure "buzz" which is where they tally all the online mentions of all the things and compare which show has the most "buzz". Snyder exploited this with the #ReleaseTheSnydercut bullshit. But Kathleen Kennedy also exploited it by basically paying thirdies to post generic shit on websites exactly like 4chan, and a million fucking twitter accounts all tweeting variations on the same thing. Facebook, instagram, youtube comments, whatever the fuck, it all gets aggregated as "buzz".

And so Kathleen Kennedy was able to make it look like Star Wars was doing comparitively well to shows on competing services because there was no objective way to prove her wrong. Nobody actually bought it but it kept her in a job.

Once Kennedy is out, Iger lifts the ban on features, Favreau and Filloni get started on a feature for one of the highest buzzed IPs on the internet. And the whole thing is proven to be the fraud it always was.
