I hope that at least one person will read this guide and take away something useful on how to give or receive advice here.HOW TO ASK FOR ADVICE1. Be specific - People are more likely to offer accurate advice instead of platitudes (ex. "just be positive!" or "don't give up!") if you clearly define your problem, your physical / mental condition, and any extenuating factors. Here's an example: "I'm a college student and I'm depressed, what do I do?" Ambiguity like this raises a ton of questions compared to, "I'm a transfer student and I feel depressed because I haven't been able to make friends at my new school, what do I do?" The problem is obvious now - anon needs help socializing and the best way to help him is by offering advice on how to meet new people. My examples are a bit oversimplified, but you would be surprised how many people omit key details in their posts.2. Be humble - If you came here to ask for help, you need to be able to swallow your pride. This is a problem across the board, but it is most evident in dating / relationship / "why am I a virgin at XX years old?" threads. I'll elaborate with an example:>A: Why can't I get past the talking stage with the women I meet?>B: What do you look like?>A: I'm average-looking, but I gained a lot of weight last year>B: You need to lose weight and work on your appearance>A: Fuck off, superficial stuff like that shouldn't matterEveryone has low points, everyone has flaws - don't take it so personally if someone points yours out. After all, YOU are the one with a problem that needs solving.3. Be skeptical at times - You're going to run into trolls and retards. These types are easy to spot, because their advice will come off as overly-hostile OR overly-confident OR it will lack sound reasoning.
