This has happened for years, it's nothing new. Everything that starts on 4chan eventually trickles down to the normie net, good or bad.
It's just happening faster now because 4chan is increasingly normifiying, which is leading to normies discovering this stuff quicker than they would in the past. Also with more thirdies on the internet than ever before there's a greater audience for race bait and racist content. There are instagram accounts that come to this website with the sole intent of finding memes and gifs to post on their accounts, it's created an online cottage industry.
It's not just racist stuff either. Within the last 10 years normies discovered pepes, then apus, then wojaks, and now they're in the process of ruining soyjaks. It just takes time.

I was "woke" before Obama was elected and woke was a thing and then stopped when it became normal. Then I was "alt right" before that even became a label or something people were aware of

yes but what do you do instead? there's only so much productivity you can generate in a day and most of us need some relaxing lazy activity to unwind, imageboards provide cheap stimulation and can actually expose you to new ideas sometimes
