Also, from another religion "they see, yet they do not". That's the easiest way to describe all neo-pagan, including making up shit about Gnosticism. Gnosticism, as the original teaching, went the way of the Dodo. Completely extinguished which isn't surprising due to nature of their teachings (apparently). Everything that we know about Gnosticism or various Pagan beliefs, was gathered by Catholics, men highly educated (at the time) who had the permission to look at and read potentially "demonic" writings. Since many of those were men of great intellect and knowledge, they knew that without making copies of as much material and distributing it among the like-minded, the Church will either close it down in their Library or order to burn it all. Many, non-Christian writers, have described us certain aspects of Gnosticism. Yet, there's no surviving primary source (just like with New Testament, btw). The Gnostic tradition, stuff that was passed from person onto a person, was gone. Writings either destroyed, lost or taken over by the Church in order to portray a rivaling school of thought as heretic influence from Hell. Due to Gnosticism not surviving the test of time, everything we know about it comes from people who, again, learned what they could from whatever writings they could find. Looking at what Gnosticism sounds and reads like today (I don't mean the 4chan-style Gnosticism, that's just a meme factory with no intellectual worth of any kind except a laugh or two) from the sources that were gathered together together... I can understand why it went extinct. It was a cult that couldn't decide on its own identity - it was HEAVILY based on Judaism and Christianity and the major reason Gnosticism came to be... Was the discord between Old and New Versions of God.
